About

Welcome to the Mt. Hood Aquatics Swim Team! Whether you are returning for another year or new to the team, we hope that swimming with MHA is a rewarding experience.

Our handbook is an overview of our team, its history and philosophies. It also contains reference information that will serve you in the coming year. Take time to read this handbook and, if you have any questions, please feel free to call on any one of the officers, your pool representative or your child’s coach for more information.

Mission Statement

Mt. Hood Aquatics offers children an affordable oppurtunity to participate in competitive swimming by coaching them to their individual potential in a positive team experience.

Team Philosophy

The Mt. Hood Aquatics training philosophy is more than just diving into the pool and swimming laps in preparation for competition. We use a scientific approach toward the training of our athletes.

Mt. Hood Aquatics is a competitive swimming team offering year around instruction, training, and competition to young people as well as successfull swimmers design the Mt. Hood program. To this end, the following team objectives have been set forth:

  • To provide physical fitness, proper conditioning, development of self-esteem and a positive self-image through life time sport and recreational activity of swimming.
  • To develop a family-oriented club with community involvement and support.
  • To provide a quality instruction and training atmosphere; from a comprehensive learn-to-swim program to the level of state, regional, national and collegiate quality swimmers.
  • To promote the ideal of honesty, integrity, good sportsmanship and team loyalty through competition at all peer and ability levels.
  • To provide an environment for self-improvement and goal achievement through hard work, dedication, self-discipline and perseverance.
  • To participate in state, regional, and national swimming events as sponsored by United States Swimming, Inc. and the United States Olympic Committee.

Although we are a swim “Team”, swimming is also a very individual sport! It enables each and every swimmer to progress at his/her own rate in both individual skill levels and team levels.

Mt. Hood Aquatics believes strongly in the “TEAM” concept. All members of the team and their families should support and share in the glory of all team swimmers in good times and bad. This constant support creates an atmosphere that encourages the physical, emotional, and intellectual growth that swimming provides. It is our goal to develop both great swimmers and confident men and women who can be proud of themselves through a POSITIVE swimming experience.

Club History

Mt. Hood Aquatics was officially formed in February of 2009 with the merger of Mt. Hood Swim Team and David Douglas Swim Club. Mt. Hood Swim Team was formed in 1984 after the merger of three East Multnomah County swim teams: Columbia River Aquatic Club, Eastmont Aquanauts and Parkrose Swim Team. David Douglas Swim Club had been in existence since 1964. Our team was formed with the goal of better utilizing the area facilities and expertise to provide a program of swimming from novice to national caliber.
With support from Mt. Hood Community College, the Red and Black hit the water with 200 plus swimmers and several coaches. MHA is a member of United States Swimming (USS). It’s a non-profit club staffed by unpaid volunteers and paid coaches. Our training centers are at 4 different locations: Mt. Hood Community College Aquatic Center (MHAC), David Douglas pool, Reynolds Community pool, and Barlow High School pool.
